AUDITION INFORMATION
AUDITION PROCEDURES
Sign up for an audition time online on jackrabbitdrama.com’s Audition Page. Once you sign up for a time slot, you are committed to that time slot and cannot change it at the last minute, so choose your time carefully with all of your other prior commitments in mind.
You will either dance first from 3:30 - 4:30pm and then sing OR you will sing first and then dance second from 4:30 - 5:30pm. Please make sure you choose your audition time knowing that there will be a dance portion of auditions. Once you have completed both parts of your audition (singing AND dancing) you are free to leave.
All aspects of auditions and callbacks are closed – only the auditioner and the production team may attend. You cannot bring friends/family into the auditorium or audition room to observe nor wait for you to finish.
If you are auditioning for a LEAD ROLE (please see character descriptions) you MUST prepare one song from this packet for the character you are auditioning for AND a 60 second monologue. This is to show us your acting capabilities and interpretation of text. The monologue should not be Shakespearean. ALL AUDITIONERS will be put through a dance combination at auditions.
If you are auditioning for an ENSEMBLE ROLE (please see character descriptions) you will prepare one song from this packet for any character you wish OR sing any 60 second cutting of a song of your choosing in the style of the show. ALL AUDITIONERS will be put through a dance combination at auditions.
A callback list will be posted on jackrabbitdrama.com on Wednesday, December 3rd before midnight. It will also be posted on the Call Board in the theatre room Thursday morning.
Callbacks will be held on Friday, December 5th from 3:30pm until finished. We HOPE to be finished by 6:30pm and will do our best to release people throughout the day. Callbacks will consist of singing from the show, a more intense dance combination, and cold readings from the script. Callbacks are also closed to anyone other than the auditioners and the production team.
Casting decisions will be made collaboratively by the members of the production team with the goal of creating the strongest production possible. Roles will be assigned based on talent, suitability, and the needs of the show. Neither grade level nor seniority will be considered as factors in casting outcomes.
The cast list will be posted on jackrabbitdrama.com before midnight on Sunday, December 7th. It will also be posted on the Call Board in the theatre room Monday morning. That afternoon from 3:30 - 6:00pm will be our first company meeting and rehearsal.
There will be a MANDATORY Parent Meeting on Tuesday, December 16th from 6:00–7:00pm. Attendance is required by both the student and at least one parent/guardian. Please note: If neither you nor a parent/guardian are able to attend this meeting, you will not be eligible to be cast in this production.
Because this is a large-scale production, there will be a $50.00 participation fee required for all students who are cast. This fee helps offset the costs of costumes, sets, performance materials, and other production expenses. If there are financial concerns, I will speak with the director privately. I understand that no student will be prevented from participating in this production due to financial hardship.
If you have any known conflicts with rehearsals or performances, you must record them on the conflict calendar included in this packet. Please note:
No additional conflicts will be accepted once rehearsals have begun.
Excessive absenteeism or last-minute conflicts will result in your removal from the show.
Because our time is extremely condensed, conflicts must be kept to an absolute minimum.
The success of this production depends on consistent attendance and full commitment from every cast member, crew member, and their parents/guardians. Please do not schedule doctor, dentist, or other appointments during rehearsal times. These will be considered unexcused absences and may result in removal from the production.
THE STORY OF FOOTLOOSE
One of the most explosive movie musicals in recent memory bursts onto the live stage with exhilarating results. When Ren and his mother move from Chicago to a small farming town, Ren is prepared for the inevitable adjustment period at his new high school. What he isn’t prepared for are the rigorous local edicts, including a ban on dancing instituted by the local preacher, determined to exercise the control over the town’s youth that he cannot command in his own home. When the reverend’s rebellious daughter sets her sights on Ren, her roughneck boyfriend tries to sabotage Ren’s reputation, with many of the locals eager to believe the worst about the new kid. The heartfelt story that emerges is of a father longing for the son he lost and of a young man aching for the father who walked out on him. To the rockin’ rhythm of its Oscar and Tony-nominated top 40 score and augmented with dynamic new songs for the stage musical, Footloose celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people, guiding them with a warm heart and an open mind.
